Sage Hill Writing is a small organization that welcomes diverse writers with different abilities and disabilities, and works to provide everyone with a positive, successful experience. We’re happy to discuss participant and faculty needs to find ways to meet your requests. Please enquire for specific details about how we can meet your needs in the program that you are interested in.
For in person programs:
Most spaces at St. Peter’s Abbey are wheelchair accessible. Accessing elevators to move between locations can mean covering longer distances on site. Mobility-related requests may mean changes to a participant’s accommodations due to stair and elevator locations.
Sage Hill Writing has a fragrance-free policy. Although our venue does not offer scent-free accommodations (some scented cleaning agents and laundry detergents are used), the space is made safer overall by our individual actions. Visitors and staff are asked to refrain from using, wearing, and bringing scented products to Sage Hill, to reduce the chemical barriers that prevent access to participants and a Sage Hill employee who has chemical sensitivities.
Sage Hill will inform the venue’s kitchen of food allergies and sensitivities. However, a gluten-free or dairy-free diet cannot be guaranteed as the kitchen has limited staff members. If you have questions about dietary requests, please contact us so that we can determine if the kitchen is able to meet your needs.
For online programs: Online programs are held using Zoom software with closed caption and chat options enabled.
For all programs: Applicants/participants are asked to inform Sage Hill of their needs at least 2 months prior to the program start date, so that we can explore options, make requests on your behalf (of the instructor or of the venue), and work with you on an individual basis to achieve a comfortable retreat atmosphere.
Your requests are not shared with the jury and do not impact your chances of being accepted into a Sage Hill Writing program.
Our strategic plan includes a commitment to increase accessibility, and we’ve made strides in that direction over the past few years. We continue to grow what we can offer as a small, grassroots organization supporting writers. Your feedback and ideas are welcome.
